Someone who remembers
that you need to eat.
Maya (माया) peeks from the top of your screen to remind you to eat, drink water, move, rest and call home. In English, नेपाली or Roman Nepali.
Free · macOS 13+ (Apple Silicon and Intel) · Windows 10/11 · No account, no tracking
Version 0.1.0 · checksums
Maya sits in the menu bar and comes down when it matters.
What it does
Small nudges, at the right moment.
Maya watches the clock and whether you are at your desk — nothing else — and speaks up only when it is worth it.
Meals, water, rest
Morning bhat, khaja, dinner, chiya. Water and stretching on a timer that pauses when you step away. Resting your eyes. Bedtime, when it is genuinely late.
Call home at the right hour
Set where home is and Maya only suggests calling when it is daytime there. No more realising you rang at three in the morning.
Focus, then a check-in
Twenty-five, fifty or ninety quiet minutes. Maya says nothing until you are done, then asks how it went.
Never nags
At most five check-ins a day, half an hour apart. Miss one and it is simply skipped — nothing piles up waiting to make you feel bad.
Knows when to be quiet
Silent through quiet hours, focus sessions, full-screen video and slideshows, and whenever you are away from the computer.
Out of your way
No Dock icon, no taskbar button. The card never takes your keyboard, so whatever you are typing keeps going exactly where you meant it.
Her voice, your way
Three languages, three tones.
The same reminder, said the way you want to hear it. Maya can call you babu, nani, your own name — or nothing at all.
“Have you eaten, babu? The laptop can wait.”
English
“भोकै काम गर्ने? पहिले खाना, अनि काम!”
नेपाली
“Khana chiso bhayo! Kati choti bhanne?”
Roman Nepali
How it works
Two minutes to set up. Then forget about it.
Download and open
Drag Maya into Applications, or run the Windows installer. No account, no sign-in, nothing to activate.
Choose how she speaks
Pick your language, a tone, and what she should call you. Tick the reminders you want and leave the rest off.
Get on with your day
Maya lives in the menu bar and comes down when it matters. Pause her whenever you like, from the same menu.
Installing
The first time, one extra click.
Maya is not signed with a developer certificate yet, so both systems ask you to confirm once. After that it opens like anything else.
On a Mac
- Open the
.dmgand drag Maya into Applications. - Right-click Maya → Open, then click Open again.
- Look for the heart in your menu bar. That is Maya, ready.
On Windows
- Run the
.exe. It installs for your account only, with no administrator rights. - If SmartScreen appears, click More info, then Run anyway.
- Look for the heart near the clock, behind the ^ arrow.
Two honest notes
Because Maya is unsigned, your computer cannot tell who made it. That is exactly why you should only ever download it from this website — and you can check the file against the published checksums before you open it.
The Windows build is newer and has had far less testing than the Mac one. If something is wrong, tell me — it genuinely helps.
Stay in touch
Hear when there is a new version.
Optional, and nothing to do with the download — Maya is free either way. One email when there is something new, and nothing else, ever.
Double opt-in — you will get one message asking you to confirm. Unsubscribe in one click, any time.
She is waiting to meet you.
Free, offline, and yours in about two minutes.
